Ever since I was a little girl, I heard about Sock Hops and Rock and Roll.  I couldn't wait to grow up and go to a Sock Hop, but even though I was born in 1954, by the time I was old enough to attend a Sock Hop we were already in the 70's.  So when my birthday came and I turned the big "50", it seemed only natural to throw myself a fify's style Sock Hop.

I sent out invitations with a picture of a jukebox and invited all my girlfriends to get out their Bobbie Sox and the guys to grease up their hair.

The party was held in the new addition to our home, a 50's style party room.  The room had cherry-soda pink and turquoise walls with a black and white tiled floor, decorations with lots of memarabilia from the 50's and early 60's such as Elvis, Barbie and Ken and even a Coca-Cola soda fountin counter.

We went back in time to a Saturday Hop Shindig. Everyone was dressed the part in poodle skirts and pony tails as we rocked around the clock with authentic Root Beer Floats, Krystal Hamburgers and 50's music that made the jitterbug come back to life.

We had a hula hoop contest and bubble gum contest on who could blow the biggest bubble.  The prizes were the highlite of the party.  I ordered wax lips, candy cigaretts, hot dog gum, wax bottles etc.

Our home theater is adjacent to the 50's party room and we played "Grease", "Happy Days" and "American Graffiti" throughout the night. We had 3 cakes; one my daughter made, was shaped like a jukebox and the other two were made like 45 RPM records, topped with recording studio labels with the titles "Ain't it Nifty, Linda's Fifty" and "The Flip Side".  They were printed on a CD disk with label software on our computer.

Everyone had a great time reminiscing about the 50's.  I had a great 50th birthday that all my friends are still talking about and I finally got to go to a Sock Hop wearing a Poodle skirt, pony tail and even cat eye glasses.I had a blast from the past and I'm sure you would too.  This was a party I'll never forget!
