We Did a Little Surfer Boy/ Little Surfer Girl Co-Ed baby shower for my friends who are, you guessed it big surfers.
INVITATIONS: We downloaded a star fish and printed it on cream colored card stock then cut out the paper in the shape of a star. We wrote, Come celebrate "Jack" and "Jane's" new wave on. (with the remainder of the details)
DECORATIONS: When guests arrived in the back yard they were greeted by sand scattered on the driveway with fishing nets full of shells buoys and other "beachy" things as well as lit Tiki torches. Inside the yard we had collected surf boards and wet suits from all of our friends and had them propped up along the fences. The tables were covered in white table clothes and we filled hurricane lanterns with sand starfish shells sand dollarsand candles as decorations. We also scattered shells and mini-starfish along the tables.
MUSIC: I made several CD's full of beach music mixes everything from Bob Marley to the Beach Boys.
FOOD: The shower was a brunch so we went with tropical flavors Coconut encrusted french toast w/warm maple syrup a tropical fruit salad crystallized ginger yogurt and a fritata. We also put blue Jello in a fish bowl and just before it set we added gummy fishes sharks etc. The kids and adults had no idea it was food until I dished it up! For drinks we had homemade lime-aid with sparkling water or 7-UP.
CAKE: For a cake we used the sandcastle cake mold from Williams Sonoma and followed their instructions. We used whipped cream and strawberries on the turrets and filled the middle with custard and strawberries. It was AMAZING! We ground up Nilla wafer until they looked like sand and placed the cake on top of the crushed cookies along with a few shells and a mini bucket and shovel.
GAMES: For the children we had a sand box where we held a sand castle building contest as well as a table with ocean pictures for them to color. As the day went on these were put up on the wall as part of the decorations.
FAVORS: For the adults we gave bags of shells with a thank you note attached from the parents to be. We also gave copies of the CD mix with a personalized label on them. For the kids their bags each had a star fish or sand dollar as well as a variety of gummy ocean creatures candy. The sharks seemed to be the biggest hit! It's a fine line between beach and luau but in the end I think we gave our wonderful future parents everything they hoped for!"
